Opportunity for Women and Children Network (OWN) is a non-governmental organisation committed to searching for opportunities to change the lives of destitute women and children/orphans; offering various approaches to tackling the universal issues of famine, unemployment and illiteracy amongst the young and old. OWN is dedicated to reintegrating these people into the world's ever-growing society.
The main objective of OWN is to provide support and material assistance to poor or disadvantaged women, living in rural areas, victims of violence or affected by HIV / AIDS in Ethiopia.
OWN also fights against all forms of exploitation of children and works to reintegrate street children and orphans in Ethiopia by providing schooling, education, training and eventual shelter.
OWN is currently helping children in the remote regions of Jimma, Ethiopia. Fundraiser events for the cause are generally held in Geneva at least once every year.
To achieve these objectives, the association OWN is working towards setting up programs to fight against misery and extreme poverty of women and disadvantaged children in Ethiopia
In this context, OWN organises fundraising activities for the construction of shelters, health centres, farms and agricultural learning workshops where women and disadvantaged children can learn and become more employable for their social reintegration.
Opportunity Women and Children Network (OWN) grants special attention in all its programs and activities to promote international and regional human rights of women and children, including:
The Convention against all forms of violence against women;
The Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women;
The Convention on Child’s Rights
The Protocol to the African Convention on human and peoples' rights concerning women’s rights;
The African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
In this respect, OWN, in partnership with other associations, organises informational campaigns and advocacy to promote women's rights, the fight against violence on women, as well as seminars and workshops on the promotion of child rights in Africa.
